Siemens Mobility South Africa Enables The Youth Of Today To See A Brighter Future Tomorrow Through Skills Development and Training

Part of becoming an expert is having the right learning platform and opportunity to get you there and this is why we have placed such emphasis on providing tailored training to the young learners who start on any of the programmes that we offer.”

Programmes offered locally by Siemens Mobility include technical and commercial internships, apprentice programs and learnerships. Each programme is designed to help students reach their full potential by combining self-directed work experience with complementary academic assignments.

Siemens Mobility offers a planned, structured and managed internship programme focusing on customer service, engineering and project execution in the rail industry. The programme is demand-driven and based on the availability of projects to ensure the interns get the most out of it.

The Commercial Advanced Training Scheme (CATS) gives recent matriculants the opportunity of following a structured academic programme to obtain a Certificate in Business Administration, in parallel with on-the-job training to learn the necessary business skills for a rewarding and successful career.

The programmes are geared to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the various aspects of business management, both technical and commercial, enabling the interns to relate to and apply the theories they learn in tertiary education to real business situations and problems.

The work experience aspects provide learners with the necessary insight into the various functional operations, processes, techniques, and controls currently used in business and industry.

Working for a multinational company has given me insight to how large companies function. I have been given exposure not only to the engineering aspect of the business, but also to the business administration and financial part as well, which has changed my approach and way of thinking as an engineer, as I now have a complete picture in my mind as to how all departments collaborate and work together.

In my journey with Siemens Mobility, I have two specific highlights.

1. Spearheaded the design and approval of Siemens Pantograph Air Bellow Pantograph Collector Head.
2. Reversed engineered critical imported components for South African localization which resulted in a significant cost saving.

Never be afraid to ask for help when you are unsure of something. Be proactive and share your thoughts and ideas.

My journey so far with Siemens Mobility, has taught me many things, chief among these would be a far better understand of the work environment and the ability to problem solve as well as work within a team.

I have several career highlights to add to my resume, but the planning and scheduled preventative maintenance for the entire railway signalling section at Assmang Khumani Mine Load out, would be the standout highlight for me.

My journey so far with Siemens Mobility has been enlightening, from managing projects though to reporting on projects. A specific highlight for me has been the launching of the new timesheet keeping tool FIORI. In an ever changing environment the opportunity to develop new skills is the key to success.
